Overdrive
found object assemblage 2019, 49 inches X 44 inches
Each time we drove through Nashville on family trips I eagerly awaited the massive automobile salvage yard next to the freeway. As we sped past in our car, I mentally ticked off as many of the cars as possible stacked high to the sky – 1962 Plymouth Valiant, 1965 Pontiac Bonneville…
My love of cars and driving has always been deep and conflicted – beauty, power, freedom - and yet the automobile is a major contributor to global warming. And what about global travel - is it another form of colonialism – the human’s seeming innate desire to invade and conquer and return home with the spoils of the conquered land? And you just thought you were going to take a joy ride! Please note this art piece is designed to be plugged into a wall outlet to be fully experienced.
